Supermoon

Half of the supermoon glowed above an apartment building as we moved out from under the canopy at the entrance of our building. I followed Laurence across the playground until we came to a long row of cement steps. Our seats afforded us a view of the beautiful moon rising above – not mountains, the ocean, or fields of grain – but over the Long Island Railroad, streetlights, Asian store signs, and brake lights. Airplanes glided beneath the moon.

The party was in the playground tonight as it is every summer evening, not a full moon party, though some may have noticed, but a gathering of friends. Under the streetlights, basketball, volleyball, and hackysack continued. The Tibetans dance was over, and they stood in small groups visiting. Tonight, for the first time, I noticed someone selling native Tibet clothes. In front of us, older Chinese couples danced in perfect sync. Little children wandered through the dancers, doing their own little jig. A child gnawed corn off a cob. Vendors with little carts sold food and trinkets. Crutches leaned against a bench where someone slept with a blanket pulled over their head. Groups of Chinese men played cards. (If you looked closely you’d see them handing around dollar bills.)

And then, I heard ever so faintly the sound of summer on the farm: Somewhere crickets chirped.

We turned once more before entering our building and marveled at the supermoon. Where were you when you saw it? Berniece

P.s. Don’t wait for Yvette to comment.

I’m sad we’re missing it! Storm clouds and rain are all we see!

And some in my family climbed a lookout tower to watch it rise. I know it was just as beautiful in the city.

Drove up out of the valley to the ridge to see it come up… truly awe-inspiring! Clear sky… huge golden moon. The light seemed to shine right through it.

My first vantage point was from the church parking lot. It was glowing through the trees.

We drove right outside of town on the Ranger side by side and watched the moon come up. So beautiful, almost cool on the side by side after a hot summer day. Set up for a bridal shower in our cook shack this evening. The moon in a clear sky is nature at its best!

We were out on the sidewalk in front of our house. It was kinda cloudy, so we didn’t see Saturn. Last night the moon was also large and beautiful!! 🤗😍

By the fields of waving grain… 😊
In reality; one field is short green soybean plants and the other field is tall rustling dried cornstalks waiting for the combine.

Sat around the fire with friends tonight and watched it rise. Was red from forest fire smoke.

On the northern outskirts of Denver in a Panda Express. The restaurant was up on a small rise so we could see it very plainly. So beautiful!

Wow! Look at all the comments before mine!
The super moon was hidden by clouds in Ohio too. I hate that we missed it! But I loved seeing it through your eyes and all the other commenters.

And then I decided you may like more detail than that… We had supper on the patio. It gets so cool after dark that autumn seems close here in Texas. So we lit a fire in our backyard as the moon rose and ate pie- I had coconut macaroon, to be specific. Landon got out his telescope to see Saturn better and there was lots of happy noise from the children on the trampoline.

We ate a delicious meal at Jason and Keara’s. We took a moon gazing break between the main course and dessert. Jim set up his powerful binoculars to see the rings on Saturn. That wasn’t so successful, but the children lined up to see. This morning the moon was still a beautiful sight. Always enjoy your posts, Berniece. Thanks!

We were driving, Gallup to Albuquerque, and the moon appeared chalky white above the mountains. We had many miles to watch it as it seemed to shrink and glow in the darkening sky. We won’t forget this one in many moons!
