I saw a status reminding us that today is 9/11. From the ashes, God made my heart soft. Tears tore through me like never before or since when I first saw the rubble of Ground Zero. I watched a tower fall while glued to a television with my husband’s co-workers. Laurence and I stood together on Elmhurst Hospital’s upper floors and witnessed the river of smoke billowing towards Staten Island, the towers gone!
My heart broke. My pride crashed when the skyline crumbled. I beheld the Eternal and knew of a certainty that someday this will all end.
Philippians 3:13: “This one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
God is faithful. While in a Garden City, Kansas motel room, even before I realized it was 9/11, He impressed me with the above verses. I am thankful for the vision of the temporary. Someday soon time will be no more. However, the past is behind us, including both 9/11 and yesterday’s sins. I am “reaching forth”, “going out with joy”, living the abundant life because Jesus died for me. Today, we get to meet my cousins in Colorado. Best of all, Heaven will be mine. I want to meet you there.
